Return to Rugby

COVID-19: FAQ's for our Rugby Community

Q: When will contact sports return in the Philippines?

A: According the IATF Restrictions (here), once an area is classified under Alert Level 2.

To aid our return, the following will need to be adhered to by both registered Rugby clubs, community coaches and the PRFU for organising official training sessions and actual competitions:

  • Capacity: Limited to 70% of an outdoor venue capacity allowed to enter and participate
  • Attendees: All participants, 18 years old and older, are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as well as show no symptoms at the time of entry. Proof may be required at entry points depending on the venue
  • Official Endorsement: Approval from the LGU
  • Preparation: Club Manager to contact PRFU to ensure the latest health and safety protocols are followed to continue to reduce the risk of community transmission.

Q: When will our domestic Rugby season start again?

A: Philippine Rugby aim to start our official domestic season after all participants and clubs have adequate preparation time. Our Union aims to host a number of Return to Rugby training sessions as well as touch rugby competitions (between December and end of February) to help assist players in their active return to the field. Providing everything steadily improves and the cities/provinces remains under an Alert Level 2 status, official domestic competitions may return in April 2022 as the official target date to start the season for Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Q: Do I have to be vaccinated?

A: According to the IATF, anyone 18 years old and older, is required to  be vaccinated to participate in contact sports such as rugby.
