(PRFU) bids farewell to a stalwart and visionary leader, Jake Letts, who has played a pivotal role in shaping the course of Philippine Rugby over the past two decades. Jake Letts, who first joined PRFU as one of the inaugural international heritage players in 2005, has been an integral part of the organization, contributing tirelessly both on and off the field. His journey with the Volcanoes saw him represent the team in both 15s and 7s until 2017, showcasing his exceptional skills and commitment to the sport. Over the years, Letts transitioned seamlessly into administrative roles, taking on the responsibilities of National Teams Manager, General Manager, and eventually serving as CEO. His dedication, leadership, and strategic vision have been instrumental in elevating the stature of Philippine Rugby on the global stage. In recognition of his unwavering commitment, Jake Letts was co-opted to fill in a vacant Trustee position earlier this year, completing the term which concluded in December 2023. As a Trustee, Letts continued to contribute his expertise and guidance to the Board, leaving an indelible mark on the governance and strategic direction of PRFU. As PRFU looks back on Letts' significant contributions, the organization expresses its deepest gratitude for his invaluable service. Letts' departure marks the end of an era for Philippine Rugby, and the Board, players, and staff are united in acknowledging the remarkable legacy he leaves behind. Letts shared, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my short time on the board over the last 10 months. I wish Tom, Ada, Gareth, Max, Phil, Steve and Rose all the very best in these honourable positions for the remainder of their terms. Moving forward I will never be too far away from the organisation, the PRFU has had a special place in my life for a long time. I look forward to seeing their success in time to come. For further inquiries, please contact: [email protected] Cebu City, 09 December 2023 – The Visayas Youth Rugby Festival 2023, hosted by the Cebu Dragons Rugby Club in partnership with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), marked the culmination of a thrilling year-end tournament for grassroots rugby in the Visayas region. With participants ranging from 7 to 19 years old, the tournament showcased the talent and passion of young rugby enthusiasts across various age categories, including U9, U12, U15, U19, and Girls divisions. A total of 200 participants competed in this exciting event, bringing together schools and teams from different communities. Notably, the tournament introduced the U9 division for the first time, with Guadalupe Elementary School making their debut and securing an impressive 3rd place finish. Pardo Elementary School secured the 2nd place, while the champions of the U9 division were SOS Children’s Village (photo on the left). In the U12 division, SOS Children’s Village successfully defended their championship title from the previous tournament. Cebu International School (CIS) claimed the 2nd place, and the Cebu City Mixed Team secured the 3rd place. The U15 division witnessed intense competition, with SOS Children’s Village and CIS teams delivering back-to-back performances. Ramon Duterte High School, featuring new players, showcased remarkable skills to secure the 3rd place. CIS (photo on right) emerged as champions for the first time in the U15 division. In the U19 division, SOS Children’s Village Cheetahs continued their dominance as back-to-back champions, followed by CIS in 2nd place and Ramon Duterte High School in 3rd place. The Ladies Division showcased outstanding performances, with Team Cebu City claiming the championship, followed by CIS in 2nd place and SOS Children's Village in 3rd place. Enhancing the excitement of the event were the tackle divisions, namely U19, Men's, and Women's Tackle Divisions. The U19s division saw SOS Cheetahs - the same team who won the U19 touch division - clinch the championship, while in the Men's Division, South District secured the Champion title. Similarly, the Women's Division witnessed South District emerging as the champions. "It is great to see the continuous growth of grassroots rugby in Cebu City. This is a testament of the dedication and passion of the members and volunteers of the Cebu Dragons Rugby Club.
