Clark Jets and Eagles RFC Triumph as Cup Champions in Thrilling Showdown at the 2023 PRFU 7s Series - Luzon Leg 2

The excitement reached its peak as rugby enthusiasts gathered last Saturday, 26 August 2023 at the prestigious Ultra Philsports Complex in Pasig City, for the spectacular conclusion of the 2023 PRFU 7s Series - Luzon Second Leg. In a heart-stopping battle that left the crowd on the edge of their seats, the Clark Jets emerged as the Cup Champions, securing a hard-fought victory against the SKF Makati Mavericks with a nail-biting score of 14-12.

The grand finale showcased the remarkable talent and determination of both teams as they battled it out on the field. The match remained a closely contested affair, with each try and conversion carrying immense weight. In the end, the Clark Jets clinched the title by a mere 2-point margin, demonstrating their prowess and unity as a team. Clark Jets' Joshua Aragon was awarded the MVP of the tournament.

In the Women's division, the Eagles RFC soared to victory, claiming the Women's Cup Championship in a riveting encounter against the SKF Makati Mavericks Franky. The Eagles RFC secured a narrow victory with a final score of 14-10, showcasing their skill, strategy, and unwavering spirit. Two converted tries by MVP Nina Yanto proved to be the decider of the tightly contested match between the top women's rugby programs in the country,
The tournament also celebrated outstanding performances from the Manila Nomads and Clark Jets, who proudly walked away with the Plate Champion titles for the Men's and Women's categories, respectively. Their dedication and exceptional gameplay were evident throughout the series, and their triumph in this leg further solidified their positions as strong contenders.

​Additionally, the SKF Makati Mavericks Vipers showcased their mettle and claimed the Bowl Champion title, adding to the thrilling competition that unfolded over the course of the tournament.  The SKF Makati Mavericks Vipers fought hard to gain a 2 try advantage plus securing 1 conversion against their leg 1 rival, Global City 7s, leaving the score 17 against 7 in the Bowl Final. Well done to both teams for an intense Bowl finals match despite the unforgiving weather conditions on the day. 

The 2023 PRFU 7s Series - Luzon Leg 2 proved to be a captivating display of rugby prowess, sportsmanship, and camaraderie. The participating teams left no stone unturned in their pursuit of victory, and their performances left an indelible mark on both fans and fellow athletes. A big thanks to the Philippine Sports Commission, KMC Solutions, Pitch'd, and Pillar Sports for its continued support on Philippine Rugby and the domestic competitions.

PHILIPPINE RUGBY UNVEILS JERSEYS FOR MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TEAMS COMPETING IN ASIA RUGBY SEVENS SERIES LEG 1

Pasig City, August 24, 2023 - The Philippine Rugby Football Union Inc (PRFU) proudly announced the 12 men's and 12 women's players for the Philippine Volcanoes teams, who will compete in the highly anticipated Asia Rugby Sevens Series leg 1, scheduled to take place in Incheon, Korea on August 26 and 27, 2023. The momentous jersey presentation ceremony was held at the KMC Jollibee Tower in Ortigas City, which is also the home of the PRFU office.

PRFU's GOLD sponsor, KMC, took center stage during the event, presenting the sleek and vibrant jerseys that the Philippine Volcanoes teams will don as they battle against formidable opponents in the Asia Rugby Sevens Series. The jerseys, a blend of modern design and national pride, symbolize the dedication and spirit of the athletes as they represent the Philippines on an international stage.

The event was graced was also graced by the representatives from Fitness First and Pitch'd, key partners of PRFU, reaffirming their commitment to the sport and the teams.

"We are thrilled to unveil the official jerseys for our men's and women's teams who will be competing in the Asia Rugby Sevens Series leg 1," said Acee San Juan, General Manager of the PRFU. "These jerseys not only represent our teams' unity and determination, but they also carry the pride of our nation. The Asia Rugby Sevens Series is a prestigious tournament that gathers top 8 men's and 8 women's rugby sevens teams from across the region. The Philippine Volcanoes teams have been preparing rigorously for this event at PSC's prestigious Ultra Philsports Complex, and their participation reflects the steady growth and increasing competitiveness of rugby in the Philippines.

The PRFU is committed to promoting and developing rugby at all levels in the Philippines and is excited to see the continued progress of its teams on the international stage. Despite the reduced number of participating teams due to National Team call ups for the Asia Rugby Sevens Series happening this weekend as well, the event promises to deliver the same level of energy, enthusiasm, and exhilaration that captivated audiences during the Leg 1 matches.

Scheduled to take place at the Ultra Philsports Complex in Pasig City on August 26, 2023, the Luzon Leg 2 of the PRFU 7s Series is poised to be a showcase of exceptional athleticism and fierce competition. Rugby enthusiasts, sports aficionados, and casual fans alike can look forward to witnessing gripping matches, strategic plays, and unforgettable moments on the pitch.

Following the resounding success of the previous leg, PRFU is thrilled to continue the rugby festivities, bringing together talented teams and dedicated athletes from across the region. The Luzon Leg 2 may feature a slightly smaller lineup of teams, but it's expected to maintain the electrifying atmosphere that has become a hallmark of the series.

2023 PRFU 7s Series - Luzon Leg 1: MANILA NOMADS AND SKF MAKATI MAVERICKS TRIUMPH IN THE THRILLING RUGBY SHOWDOWN

​Pasig City, August 15, 2023 - The Ultra Philsports Complex in Pasig City witnessed an exhilarating display of athleticism and camaraderie as rugby enthusiasts from all corners of Luzon gathered for the 2023 PRFU 7s Series - Luzon Leg 1. The tournament, held on August 12, showcased exceptional talent, fierce competition, and remarkable sportsmanship among the participating teams.

​In a gripping finale to the Men's Cup Division, the Manila Nomads emerged victorious after a nail-biting match against the formidable Eagles RFC. The Nomads displayed outstanding teamwork, skill, and determination, securing their place as champions of the division, and setting the tone for an electrifying series ahead.
Led by Cup Division MVP and Philippine Volcanoes Captain, Kai Stroem, the Nomads were the tournament favorites to win the competition. The Eagles fought hard and scored a try. However, time wasn't on their side as Nomads emerged as winners with a 17 - 7 win at full time. 

Meanwhile, in the Women's Cup Division, the SKF Makati Mavericks Ricky showcased their prowess on the field as they clinched a hard-fought Golden Point victory against the Eagles RFC. The match was a testament to the dedication and skill of the Mavericks, earning them the well-deserved title of Women's Cup Division champions.
​The excitement continued in the Plate Divisions, with the SKF Makati Mavericks Vipers and SKF Makati Mavericks Franky dominating the Men's and Women's categories, respectively. The Vipers displayed a remarkable performance to secure victory in the Men's Plate Division, while the Franky squad showcased their resilience and determination, emerging triumphant in the Women's Plate Division.
​Adding another feather to their cap, the SKF Makati Mavericks Roosters soared to victory in the Men's Bowl Division, displaying exceptional talent and tenacity throughout the tournament.
